In the first marking period or first part of "speak" by Laurie halse Andersone , i read about a girl named Melinda Sordino. she is a freshman who is treated really bad by her old Friends. they will not even say a word to melinda. this is because they say something she has done but i still have yet to find out what it was. in the book it also talks about Melinda"s teachers her family life at home and her one peer she does talk to. i guess you can say her only friend.
in my group we talked about what does the tree mean. by the way the tree is an art project. at first the tree Melinda drew was a simple tree almost looked like a 3rd grader drew it. it was very simple. later Melinda makes another tree yes makes this time it is not a drawing. the tree Melinda makes is made out of knives, forks , a barbie head , a melted Lego piece and turkey bones.this project was first a drawing that looked like a 3rd grader drew it and it is no0 turned into a complex art piece that makes you go wow when you see it. some body in my group said it is kind of like Melinda grows and so does the branches on the tree.
also during the group discussion we felt that Mr. Freeman the art teacher does not really take a good look at Melinda.
i think that me and all my group members all kind of came up with similar ideas at the group discussion.we talked about which girls at school treat Melinda as a bitch. which teachers and which family members treat Melinda like a bitch. we said that Melindas old best friend because she never asked Melinda what really happened ans she still treats Melinda bad. also her art treacher mr. freeman because he just over lookes melinda. also her family because they dont spend time or talk with melinda.
overall i am really liking this book it keeps my eyes open so thats good and i cant wait to read more. so thats what i am going to do so bye.
